Fully Automated De-Construction Tooling
(AECL/Bruce Power)
  • Very large automated de-construction of 2 CANDU reactors at the Bruce Nuclear Generation Station at Tiverton, Ontario.

  • Part of team that developed the control system architecture, ethernet and ProfiBus networks and operator interfaces.

  • MuSoft was responsible for design and implementation of the Generic Drives Interface (GDI) for all automated tools, residing in Modicon Premium PLCs; GDI modular interface supported up to 8 Danaher servo controllers or Danfoss VFDs, over ProfiBus-DP at 12MBaud.

  • Control software was developed using IEC-61131-3 languages in Schneider Automation Unity Pro IDE.

  • All drive parameters were downloaded automatically at tool startup, as each tool had varying number of servos, with different application parameters.

  • Developed PLC based Vision System control interface, for automatic tool alignment on reactor face.

  • MuSoft provided systems integration testing support in AECL lab and commissioning support at Bruce Power site.

Large Synchronous Motor Sequencing Controllers
(GE Motors)
  • Developed Master Sequencing Controllers for controlling large (25-30 MegaWatt) synchronous motors for high reliability blower applications in refineries and steel mill blast furnaces.

  • Controllers were based on GE-Fanuc 90-30 PLCs with Hot Backup Redundancy (Max-ON) and ethernet networks.

  • MuSoft provided front-end requirements specification, detailed system design consultation, detailed design and testing of control software, and on-site commissioning at BP refinery in Texas City, TX and Nanjing, China.

Robotic Machine PLC Control Software (GE Nuclear)
  • Instrumentation tools and fuel push tool deployment for CANDU nuclear reactor inspection

  • Modicon Quantum PLC with ProfiBus DP I/O for position encoders and machine interface, SERCOS motion controllers for 14 SERCOS drives

  • Very large software development, using IEC-1131 based languages (FBD/SFC/LD/ST)

  • Many complex, automatic sequences

  • 32-bit Windows application, written in VB6/C++

  • Extensive UI to support 10+ measurement instruments, some with over 200 parameters

  • Configurable graphing subsystem for display of echo profiles including comparison with reference profiles

  • User-configurable reporting via 'Crystal Reports' and Access database technology

  • Multiple protocol communications support, including Modbus

  • Easy maintenance of instrument parameter definitions via external script-based configuration files

SERCOS Motion Controller Custom Software Development (GE Nuclear)

  • Modicon SERCOS motion controller - custom application task development, written in C.

  • Added regulation functions to allow Modicon controllers to work in applications for which they were not designed, such as mechanism stalls and constant current/force

  • Added fast speed, current, and digital input feedback

  • Improved the Modicon backplane data communications rate by a factor of two

  • Provided application tuning via external script files which allows same application task to run on multiple controllers (7 axes on each), easing configuration management
